These granite forms in City of the Rocks reminded me of an impressionistic painting. Some of the granitic rock formations here are 2.5 billion years old. They are some of the oldest formations found in the continental United States. Beginning in 1843, City of Rocks was a landmark for emigrants on the California Trail and Salt Lake Alternate Trail and later on freight routes, Utah to Boise, Idaho stage route.
